We’ve said it before: The landscape of your workforce is changing rapidly. One of the biggest challenges we face in the very near future is a drastically widening workforce skills gap. And the gap is pretty big—like San Andreas big, people.
Just check out these numbers. By 2020 there is expected to be a shortage of:
- 38-40 million high skilled workers
- 45 million middle skilled workers
- 90-95 million low skilled workers
But don’t panic. We think you can do something about it. First, be prepared. Are you acting as strategic as you can? The demand for your skills (particularly in recruiting) is about to multiply so make sure you’re being as efficient as possible in all areas of your job. Start training now to be your best and most efficient because the time is rapidly approaching when your skills will be even more necessary.
Second, are you developing your employees? Your job is going to be a lot easier if you are planning to fill the gaps that your company may have in the future. If you have trained employees already, the skills gap won’t hit you as hard. Of course, you’ll also need to be sure that your company can retain that talent you’re developing, otherwise developing them won’t really help you.
