2026 Iowa State Withholding Updates
Keeping Iowa state withholding compliant just got simpler. When you hire in Iowa or update an employee’s Iowa withholding, BambooHR now shows the 2026 form options, so you can make changes confidently and keep calculations accurate without extra double-checking.
What's new
Iowa state withholding now supports the latest 2026 IA W-4 filing status structure, including the split of “Married Filing Jointly” and “Qualifying Surviving Spouse” into separate selections. This helps ensure employees see valid choices when setting up or updating Iowa withholding.
BambooHR also respects the employee’s Iowa withholding form version to keep state withholding calculations aligned with the selections on file.
Payroll State Tax Withholding Data Imports now require a State WH Form Version for Iowa so imported values can be validated against the correct form version.
What you'll see
When an employee’s state withholding location is Iowa, the filing status list reflects the 2026 IA W-4 options for new hires, rehires, and anyone making changes to Iowa withholding.
If you use the Payroll State Tax Withholding Data Import, you’ll now include the employee’s Iowa State WH Form Version so the import can confirm the filing status and related values match what’s allowed for that version.
What you can do
If you’re onboarding employees in Iowa or updating Iowa withholding, review the filing status selection during setup to ensure it matches the employee’s latest IA W-4.
If you import Iowa withholding data, make sure you are using the up-to-date version of the template so your upload validates cleanly.
