In an effort to help our Payroll customers stay compliant with state tax laws and regulations, we have made updates to the options available for certain states in the State Tax area on the Pay Info tab. The updates include the following:
Alabama
Updated the ‘Married Filing Separate’ status to be labeled ‘Married Filing Separately’
Updated the ‘Head of Household’ status to be labeled ‘Head of Family’
California
Updated the ‘Single’ status to be labeled ‘Single or Married (with two or more incomes)’
Updated the ‘Married’ status to be labeled ‘Married (one income)’
Minnesota
Updated the ‘Single’ status to be labeled ‘Single; Married legally separated; or Spouse NRA’
Mississippi
Updated the ‘Married one income’ status to be labeled ‘Married (Spouse NOT employed)’
Updated the ‘Married two incomes’ status to be labeled ‘Married (Spouse IS employed)’
Updated the ‘Head of Household’ status to be labeled ‘Head of Family’
New Jersey
Updated the ‘Married filing jointly’ status to be labeled ‘Married/Civil Union Couple Joint’
Updated the ‘Married filing separately’ status to be labeled ‘Married/Civil Union Partner Separate’
Updated the ‘Qualified Widow(er)’ status to be labeled ‘Qualifying Widow(er)/Surviving Civil Union Partner’
North Carolina
Updated the ‘Single’ status to be labeled ‘Single or Married Filing Separately’
Updated the ‘Married’ status to be labeled ‘Married Filing Jointly or Surviving Spouse’
Oregon
Two local state taxes in Oregon will be required to withhold from employees starting on 01/01/2022. Employees subject to the tax can choose to complete a form to withhold a custom (‘OPT IN’) amount that is different from the standard calculated amount. The state withholding options for Oregon are being updated to include a custom withholding amount field for each of these localities.
